Blinker Tavern in Kent

Just a quick note here to tell you that I had my first evening playing at the Blinker Tavern in Kent, on Saturday the 24th of November. Once again I learned the valuable old adage about “never judging a book by it’s cover”.  When you pull up to the Blinker you might have several thoughts going through your head. Mine were that it was a smaller, no-frills type of tavern where you would go to have a quick beer ask directions and then move on. I was most pleasantly surprised and dead wrong. First off, the owner, Joe and his staff are the nicest group of people you would ever want to meet. The exterior of the place is a bit stark and unassuming. The inside was actually pretty nice. It was immaculately clean with new carpet and furniture throughout. It was well lit and equipped with some nice modern looking big screens for sportsmen to watch their games. An awesome sound system and even a nice new dance floor. It also had a couple of pool tables and a deck out back for those of you who are still smokers. When I got there to set up there was some Lynnard Skynnard playing on the jukebox and most other music after that was of the same type of 70’s Rock and Roll/modern country. I wasn’t sure how they were going to take some of the stuff I did, which is usually of the tamer variety. I was not sure if I had enough country music to satisfy this crowd. I just decided that I would just play what I normally do and if they were ready for that type of music then great, if not I would probably not get asked to return. The first song I did I got a standing ovation (Horse with No Name) and from then on it was a totally great audience. All night long it seemed like they really enjoyed about every song I did. I couldn’t lose with this crowd. I was getting a million requests and sorry to say I couldn’t come through on all of those but suffice to say I was hitting about 60%, which is good for me. At any rate, the evening turned out to be a really fun time and I am back again this Saturday night on December 1st. I am really looking forward to it!

Never judge a book by it’s cover. Sounds clich’e but oh so true.

The Votes Have Been Counted

Well needless to say the election didn’t go exactly the way I had hoped, neither in the national presidential race nor here in the state of Washington. Some say that Obama won in a landslide and I don’t agree with that. I think it was rather close. 50% to 48% , with 2% to other candidates. Look at it this way, say you take 200 people and put them in a room to mingle around. The liberals would be wearing blue shirts and the conservatives in red, with the “other” wearing purple. There would be 100 red shirts, 94 blue, and 4 purple. Aside from the purple shirts standing out, it would be somewhat difficult to make a guess as to who was more numerous between red and blue. A very simplistic way of looking at it but a “Landslide” is not the way I would describe it.

It is sad to have to watch our country transform from “makers” to “takers” before our very eyes but it is indeed happening. Like Rush Limbaugh said the day after, “It’s hard to beat Santa Claus”.  That is what many people voted for, handouts! I don’t know how low we will have to decline before people wake up. I don’t know if it is already too late to return to what we once were. The conservatives are up against the odds when it comes to getting the truth out. The main stream media has an agenda and if you can’t se that clearly I feel sorry for you. funny how you saw basically nothing about Bengahzi (sp?) leading up to the election except from Fox. If it was George Bush in charge it would have flooded the airwaves. Gee you think it is just a coincidence that Genreal Petraeus (sp?) waited to submit his resignation until after the election?? C’mon!! Now it is unikely that he will have to testify about what really went on. We’ll see I guess what is coming down the pike. Obama Care will be enstated and we had better hang on to our hats. Our religious rights (especially as Catholics) will be trampled on and no one even seems to care. Heck, Obama supposedly took the majority of Catholic votes. I just don’t get it. It is so senseless to me that I just have to think that God actually has some sort of plan in the works because I know He will never just abandoned us. I know that in the end..We Win!

Here in Washington Sate they passed the legalizing of marijuana for recreational use! One doesn’t have to look very far to see how many lives alcohol has ruined and that is legal and taxed and supposedly “controlled”. Marijuana is just going to add more irons into the fire. They also legalized Gay marriage in Washington State. Now I believe with all my heart that God loves us all, straight , gay, bi-sexual, transgendered, blah blah blah, whatever /however we choose for our life, but I don’t think that God meant for people of the same sex to enter a Holy Union. Call it a civil committment or whatever but not “marriage”.  I have many gay friends (I live in Seattle) and I truly love them dearly. I would be the first to stand up for them if anyone ever tried to harm them or discrimminate against them solely for being gay. They should have the same rights as anyone else but leave the term “marriage” as it is now commonly understood, between a man and a woman! Again I seem to be in a minority of opinion, at least in this state, and the people have spoken.

I guess I am just an old fashioned, middle-aged (fastly approaching senior citizen satus) guy from the midwest who has a harder time of letting go. Letting go of what I thought America would always be like. We are still the greatest nation on Earth andI truly believe that God allowed this country to form for a purpose. I put my trust in Him because He will never ever turn His back against us. For those of us who believe in God our faith will keep us going and looking forward to a brighter future.  Remeber …in the end WE WIN!!!!

Election Day Eve!

Well it seemed that tomorrow would never get here. This has been a long, drawn out, hard fought election process for sure! I went to church tonight to pray that Americans choose the right path tomorrow and that we have a leader who really will restore our country to it’s full glory or at least get us moving in the right direction. The church was closed so I just parked my car in a quiet spot and prayed in the car. As I sat there I realized what really bothered me that this election is going to be very close whoever wins unless God puts His hand in it to help it along ie. a miracle. As you have probably realized from my other postings I tend to be on the conservative side however I can understand that there are differences between me and some of my liberal friends that are basically just a difference in approach to accomplish the same goals. I’m no economist and I certainly have a limited knowledge whe it comes to financial issues concerning on the best way to get the budget balanced.   7.8 billion stimulus to jumpstart the economy versus trickle down economics? The best way to provide health coverage for the most people for the least amount of money. I think Republicans and Democrats alike want this country to prosper and grow and be a shining beacon for the rest of the world to look to and ascribe to. I think no party (Islamist extremists excluded) want to see America fall down. There are many who say that Barack Obama’s dream (Dreams From My Father) would be to do just that, to make us pay for our past sins as colonialists. I dn’t know what is truly in the man’s heart so it is hard for me to say, although I often tend to believe he is very socialistic/Marxist in his actions. I can see that at times the only difference between us is the actual plan we want to put in place to accomplish our country’s goals.  What I find distressing is the great divide on some of the moral issues. I am, of course, very pro-life whereas some of my friends have no problems with a woman killing her baby….I mean terminating the fetus!  The same goes for assisted suicide or euthenasia for the elderly. I just can’t see how someone can justify terminating a life period! One of the main things bothering me is that almost half the people in the United States believe that it is okay to do such a thing. ALMOST HALF!  I believe that I am right in my beliefs and that those beliefs are what God would want for this nation.  Apparently there is close to half the nation that believe I am wrong.  If Romney doesn’t win does it mean God has ignored my prayers and those of millions of others. If Obama loses does it mean that God has chose to ignore the prayers of the left?  No matter how it all works out I would venture to guess that the left may not really have much faith in prayers to begin with. How religious can you be to say it is okay to snuff out the life of an innocent unborn child? If my prayers are not answered by tomorrow night (actually tonight) then I guess I have to accept it as God’s will and perhaps he has a much bigger plan in store for us. That is somewhat unsettling to think about as well but it wouldn’t be the first time in my life that things appear to be hopeless when all of a sudden events happen to turn around the situation and I then realize why things unfolded the way they did.  All in God’s plan, all in God’s plan.   Perhaps this next election could have dire conseqences for the our nation and perhaps it won’t. Please get out and vote for your candidate like the future of this nation really depends on it because this time it just may. I am sorry for the rambling here. It is almost 3:00 in the morning and I am a bit rummy right now. God Bless!
